Speech and Language Therapist/Audiologist

B.A. Speech and Hearing Therapy

I am a dually qualified speech-language therapist and audiologist all the way from sunny South Africa. After completing my degree, I worked at a government hospital in Johannesburg, where I managed the speech and audiology department independently. I have managed a varied caseload ranging from neonates to adults and geriatrics, in both speech therapy and audiology.

My clinical experience includes diagnosis and treatment of expressive and receptive language disorders, articulation and phonological processing disorders, voice and fluency disorders, developmental disorders, motor speech disorders, feeding problems and literacy disorders. I also have a great deal of experience working with adults who have suffered neurological incidents such as strokes and traumatic brain injury and their consequent impairments, namely: expressive and/or receptive language impairments, swallowing and feeding difficulties, speech impairments and cognitive impairments.

To help clients achieve their full potential, I have completed further certification in the following:

  1. The Hanen Program “More Than Words”- This is a program that focuses upon helping parents promote communication and social skills in children with autism. It provides parents with strategies and necessary support to help their children reach their fullest communication potential.
  2. SOS Feeding Therapy for Picky Eaters and Problem Feeders- The Sequential Oral Sensory (SOS) feeding approach integrates motor, oral, behavioural, medical, sensory and nutritional factors and approaches in order to evaluate and manage children with feeding concerns.
  3. PROMPT- The PROMPT therapy technique is a tactile- kinaesthetic approach that uses touch cues to a client’s articulators (jaw, tongue, lips) to manually guide them through a targeted word, phrase or sentence.

I have also been on further training in the areas of: Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC), “Speech Motor Learning” (SML) programme for Apraxia, Hands on Autism (training incorporating principles of PECS, TEAACH, Makaton and AAC) and management of the child with Cerebral Palsy.

I am outgoing, extraverted, enthusiastic, hard working and extremely passionate about my vocation. I provide individual and group therapy sessions for children and adults experiencing a wide range of speech, language, voice, cognitive and swallowing related impairments.
