Julia Miller
I am a Speech-Language Pathologist and Educational Specialist who is passionate about helping children and families thrive through connection, communication and play. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Speech, Language and Hearing Therapy from Stellenbosch University and have experience working in both South Africa and the Cayman Islands across clinical, educational and community settings.
I have supported children from infancy through adolescence, including working with babies on early communication and feeding, as well as children with a wide range of needs such as autism spectrum disorder, speech and language delays, dyslexia, apraxia and social communication difficulties. I value building strong relationships with both children and their families, creating a supportive and encouraging environment where growth can flourish.
My approach is warm, child-led and play-based, using meaningful interactions to support development in a natural and engaging way. I believe that children learn best when they feel safe, connected and motivated, and I am dedicated to helping each child reach their full potential while empowering families along the journey.
Specialist training includes:
-
Lindamood-Bell® Seeing Stars® – This evidence-based programme develops symbol imagery (the ability to create mental images of letters and words). It supports children who experience difficulties with reading, spelling, decoding, sight word recognition, and written language.
-
Lindamood-Bell® Visualizing and Verbalizing® – This programme develops concept imagery (the ability to create mental images from language). It helps improve language comprehension, vocabulary, following directions, critical thinking, and reading comprehension.
-
The Hanen Program® – It Takes Two to Talk® – This internationally recognised parent coaching programme equips parents and caregivers with practical strategies to encourage communication and language development during everyday routines and interactions with their child.
-
DIRFloortime® Level 202 – This advanced training builds on the DIRFloortime framework, focusing on supporting children’s emotional, social, communication, and developmental growth through meaningful, play-based interactions. Level 202 provides additional training in assessing individual developmental differences and tailoring intervention strategies to support children with a range of developmental needs.
